Responding to Our Time: A Group Contemplation

Join Common Light for an open discussion and group contemplation on the theme of ‘responding to our time.’ Everyone is in a place to respond meaningfully to today’s challenges—whether through outer activism, changes at home or the workplace, an inner practice, or a combination of the above. Time is always changing, too. Today is unlike yesterday, this year is unlike last year. How can we start to identify our authentic response to the moment we're in?

Group contemplation is a way of collectively exploring questions like these. By building relationships where everyone is trusted and treated as having an equal connection to creativity, we can reach insights we wouldn't otherwise possess. We discuss the theme openly and choose an aspect we wish to explore together. We then contemplate the theme in silence, and share what we learned. Through this process, new ideas are brought into the world—and everyone’s contributions are valued, regardless of their race, gender, experience, belief system, or station in life.

Given the unprecedented change of today’s world, contemplation is an important capacity to develop. Many people are working to privilege some voices over others, including their own. “Follow me," they say. But that leaves out the perspectives of countless others. Group contemplation allows us to experience the wisdom that lives inside all of us—not only the few. We can do is invite others to share their experience and perspective so that “we can all follow each other.” Creating space for this understanding to arise organically takes time and practice. This is one such opportunity.

All are welcome. No past experience is necessary. Please join from a quiet place where you can think and speak comfortably.
